About Us
Elysium Ltd was formed in 1991, as a consultancy and software design firm. Its founders had been working with advanced videotex and email services, and could see that the Internet was about to have a profound impact on the way that IT services would be offered in the future.

Initial clients included Volvo, Mazda, Nissan and the NHS. Elysium soon made an impact, and received many accolades and awards. These included:

  • two successive Multimedia Demonstrator awards under the UK government's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Information Society Initiative.  The awards were for their Micro'borough project, which has received extensive coverage in both national press (Financial Times and Times Educational Supplement) and the DTI and other government brochures
  • the BSI Web site, which Elysium managed, was voted in the World's top 100 sites by UK's PC Magazine in November 1997, and has continued to grow and develop to a major web presence
  • the first secure intranet interface to the share portfolio information held in the UK Stock Exchange's CREST system (for Lawshare Ltd)
  • its (Linux based) Lantonet product was the first to offer access control, web caching, and personal mailboxes to over 10,000 students in UK colleges and schools, and was awarded the South East Region BT 'Aim High' award
  • as Webmaster, chair of the Historical Archive project and project editor for the international JPEG committee

Since then, Elysium has continued to produce market leading solutions, which they have combined with effective hosting and support offerings. Clients include the British Standards Institution, BT, the BBC, Kent County Council, Sussex Careers, TH March, and many smaller companies in Sussex and Kent. Internationally, they continue to run the JPEG web site, and that of the International Color Consortium.

Research and development are key to Elysium's business - they have been involved in European Community initiatives through the ACTS, ESPRIT, 5th Framework and Intereg support programmes, and helped and assisted standardisation initiatives since their formation. As well as chairing the UK group responsible for work on MPEG and JPEG for over ten years during a period of intense activity, they have recently been charged within JPEG with leading the task of creating a new set of standards for the digital camera industry, working closely with Microsoft's key personnel to adapt their proprietary technology to match JPEG's capabilities to deliver standards.

Elysium Ltd is privately owned, and based in Crowborough, in rural East Sussex, home to Winnie the Pooh and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
